| You are in for a thrill on this trip. You will be boarding our high speed ocean raft for an hour and a half ocean adventure where we commonly find dolphins and/or whales. Our speedy ocean raft will cruise the majestic Lana`i shoreline giving you access to parts of the islands that few other visitors will ever see. We will take you back to the 1000 foot sea cliffs on the western side of the island and show you interesting and historical sites only accessible from the ocean.
Lana`i is home to one of the largest resident pods of spinner dolphins in the world and they are typically on the south or western shore which is easily accessible on our fast raft. The resident spinner pod is over 400 dolphins and they are called “spinner” dolphins for a very good reason, they are the most acrobatic of all species of dolphins jumping and spinning in all directions. The spinners can actually get 4-5 full rotations while leaping from the water. Seeing hundreds of wild dolphins at once is truly a sight to behold. There are also 2 other species of dolphins we might see on one of these trips; the bottle nose dolphin and the white spotted dolphin which typically makes it home in deeper water.
From late December to early May, the vast majority of the North Pacific Humpback Whales make their winter home off the shores of Lana`i. This is the breeding grounds and the calving grounds for the whales and we typically see mother calves on most trips. The waters off Lana’i are shallow clear and warm which makes it perfect conditions calving conditions. Our certified whale naturalist will educate you our winter guests. If you are lucky you may even see a whale “breach” (when a whale jumps from the water exposing its full body). Trilogy Ocean Sports is a proud supporter of the conservation of the North Pacific Humpback Whales to find out how you can help click here.
